LEBANESE RELIEF

ORGANIZATIONS

Herb + Design developed No 94 Lebanese Cedar Organic Soy wax candle as an immediate reaction to the 4th of August blast which killed more than 190 people, wounded at least 6000 persons, and destroyed a significant part of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

The Lebanese Red Cross, along with other organizations were quick to provide treatment and transport to the wounded, evacuation of damaged hospitals, distribution of blood units to hospitals, setting up of shelters, distribution of ready meals, food parcels & hygiene kits across all areas of Lebanon.

To lend a helping hand from our platform, to our brothers and sisters in Lebanon, all profits of this candle goes directly to the Lebanese Red Cross.

MARINE LIFE

CONSERVATION

Marine Life Conservation is the protection and presevation of ecosystems in oceans and seas through planned management in order to prevent the over-exploitation of these resources. Oceans are polluted by plastic particles ranging in size from large original material such as bottles and bags, down to microplastics formed from the fragmentation of plastic material. This material is only very slowly degraded or removed from the ocean so plastic particles are now widespread throughout the surface ocean and are known to be having deleterious effects on marine life. Discarded plastic bags, six pack rings, cigarette butts, masks, and other forms of plastic waste which finish up in the ocean present dangers to wildlife and fisheries. Aquatic life can be threatened through entanglement, suffocation, and ingestion. Fishing nets, usually made of plastic, can be left or lost in the ocean by fishermen. Known as ghost nets, these entangle fish, dolphins, sea turtles, sharks, dugongs, crocodiles, seabirds, crabs, and other creatures, restricting movement, causing starvation, laceration, infection, and, in those that need to return to the surface to breathe, suffocation. There are various types of ocean plastics causing problems to marine life. Bottle caps have been found in the stomachs of turtles and seabirds, which have died because of the obstruction of their respiratory and digestive tracts. Ghostnets are also a problematic type of ocean plastic as they can continuously trap marine life in a process known as "ghost fishing".

Herb + Design is fully aware of the marine pollution that's becoming a growing problem in today's world. For that reason, we have dedicated a candle with colorful underwater illustrations. All profits from this candle are dedicated to local organizations who aid in the conservation and clean-up of the Red Sea. One of those organizations is ProjectSea. Project Sea organizes regular clean-up campaigns in Aqaba, along with volunteer scuba divers. They have completed numerous clean-ups collecting over 15 thousand pieces of plastic, along with other debris weighing over 2 tons. All these events included volunteers from 25 different nationalities, of which more than 50% were women.

We have designed The Nature Collection with the inspiration of the beauty, scents, aura, and sounds of the natural world that surrounds us, and by donating all profits from the sale of our No. 601 Sea Breeze candle to these organizations, we help raise awareness to their mission.

CANCER

AWARENESS

The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHFC) undertakes various fundraising activities to support and maintain the mission of KHCF as a comprehensive cancer center of excellence. KHFC is a free-standing, independent, non-governmental, nonprofit organization established by a royal decree to combat cancer in Jordan and the Middle East region.

Herb + Design is supporting the cause and mission of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation by developing an organic soy wax candle, with proceeds dedicated to their cause. Our candle No. 602 Spring Blossom from The Nature Collection is a celebration of the spring season, where trees start growing their leaves back, resembling one's cancer journey to recovery, and their hair growing back after chemotherapy, signifying a rebirth.

With each sale of this product, you help make a change to a patient's life.

PALESTINIAN

AID

The State of Palestine is beset by a protracted protection crisis and suffers from a chronic humanitarian situation. Around 2.1 million people, including 933,994 children in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, continue to be impacted. This crisis is exacerbated by Israel’s occupation of the State of Palestine, with the closure of the Gaza Strip and the escalation in May 2021 contributing to fueling tensions leading to conflicts, but also the COVID-19 pandemic, the internal Palestinian political divide, and a deepening fiscal and financial crisis within the Palestinian economy.

This humanitarian situation compounds multi-sectoral and household vulnerabilities increasing child protection risks. Domestic violence is widespread; as over 90% Palestinian children face some form of violent discipline at home, with some subjected to severe physical violence from their caregivers. Furthermore, a lot of children are engaged in child labor, including hazardous labor. The consequences of COVID-19 and the recurrent conflict-related violence are severely impacting children’s well-being and increasing the risks of negative coping mechanisms, particularly for the most vulnerable.

Insufficient water supply to households, poor sanitation and solid waste services, limited public wash services and risk of flooding are further putting 1.36 million Palestinians at risk of waterborne diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic and the escalation of May 2021 led to extended school closures, impacting children’s access to education as well as learning outcomes. Health services were also overstretched and disrupted during and following the May 2021 escalation in Gaza, leaving an estimated 1.5 million people with limited access to primary healthcare.
